Never Been Kissed (1999)

A little romantic comedy from 1999, Never Been Kissed (starring Drew Barrymore) is the story of a copy editor for the Chicago Sun Times that is assigned to go undercover – giving her a chance to re-do her senior high school year.  The content of the movie doesn’t make much sense when you put it in a real world perspective, but in the context of the movie I suppose it does.

So of course hilarity ensues when the major nerd tries to go back to high school – like wearing ridiculous outfits that not even adults would wear, trying to fit in with the cool crowd without looking like a loser, but failing miserably.  Okay maybe it’s a little on the depressing side, too.

My main beef was in all of Josie’s (the main character) flashback scenes to high school, it was all about the ’80s.  She’s supposed to be 25, in 1999 – she’s only 8 years removed from high school!  So she would have been graduating in 1991 or 1992…so where were my ’90s references?  I guess the ’90s weren’t popular for romantic comedies starring Drew Barrymore from 1998-1999.
